Webinar on Responsible Innovation for Carbon Removal - Developing a National Programme

18.11.2025 Zoom!

Please register here for free by November 17th, 2025 to attend the webinar. The webinar will be held on Zoom.

Rob Bellamy is Senior Lecturer in Climate and Society in the Department of Geography at the University of Manchester and Editor-in-Chief of Dialogues on Climate Change.

In this talk, Rob will report on the findings of the responsible innovation and societal engagement work of the UK’s national carbon dioxide removal (CDR) directorate hub, CO2RE. He will rehearse why responsible innovation and societal engagement with CDR is important, before reporting on the project’s findings about how CDR can be better evaluated, engaged with, communicated, and governed. He will examine public evaluations across national surveys and deliberative workshops, and the need to attend more closely to field trials as sites of engagement, including ethnographies with field researchers and community protests in response to an ocean alkalinity enhancement trial. He will then look at how we need to pay closer attention to how we communicate and govern CDR.
